Shanghai experienced a significant surge of over 16.24 million visitors during the recent five-day May Day holiday, announced the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Culture and Tourism.
Data from the city's tourism authority revealed a 3.77 percent year-on-year increase in total visitors, with major tourist attractions witnessing a 15 percent rise, drawing in 7.32 million tourists.
The influx was fueled by the city's enhanced allure in commerce, tourism, culture, sports, and exhibitions.
Specifically, 147 museums saw a remarkable 38.4 percent growth, welcoming 825,700 visitors, while 64 art galleries experienced a significant 48.7 percent uptick, attracting 251,900 visitors.
Key landmarks such as the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, and Lujiazui collectively hosted 5.47 million visitors, showcasing a slight 0.29 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Additionally, 820 performances across various venues entertained 780,000 attendees, further enriching the holiday experience.
